Fundamentals of Sensory
Integration Theory:
Course Description: This course will introduce practitioners to the fundamentals of sensory integration theory. The underlying principles of sensory integration will be discussed. The neuroanatomy essential for understanding sensory integration and its application to intervention will be presented in an easy to understand format which will be linked to function throughout the course. The basic neurology and function of the sensory modulation, sensory discrimination and motor function systems will be addressed. This course will form a solid foundation for understanding the neurological basis of sensory integration theory and intervention. This course is ideal for the practitioner who wants a solid overview of sensory integration theory and neurology that is meaningfully applied to intervention.
Level: Introduction Contact Hours: 6 hours
Course Objectives: 1) Articulate the key components of sensory integration theory 2) Describe the key neurology and neuroanatomy essential to understanding sensory modulation, sensory discrimination and motor function 3) Apply understanding of sensory integration theory to intervention 4) Relate foundational neurological sensory and motor processes to intervention and function
